| NEXMED ANNOUNCES
5TH PATENT ALLOWANCE FOR FEMPROX |

| Robbinsville,
NJ, April 21, 2004 - NexMed,
Inc. (Nasdaq: NEXM), a developer
of innovative treatments based
on the NexACT drug delivery technology,
today announced that it has received
a Notice of Allowance for its
patent application entitled, "Compositions
and Methods for Amelioration of
Human Female Sexual Dysfunction."
The patent, when issued, protects
Femprox for use in the treatment
for female sexual arousal disorder
("FSAD"), and provides
U.S. exclusivity to December 2018.

NexMed, commented, "We are
delighted by this addition to
our intellectual property estate
since it expands our family of
patents protecting our Femprox
product. When issued, this patent
will augment the 4 issued U.S.
patents covering Femprox and a
series of U.S. and foreign pending
patent applications. The patent
protection extends to the product's
enabling technology, formulation
and method of treatment."
Dr. Mo added, "Our proprietary
transdermal products under development
all incorporate the NexACT technology,
which is supported by patents
dating back to 1990. We are continuing
to aggressively pursue additional
U.S. and worldwide patent protection
for this innovative technology." |

| Femprox is topically applied,
and incorporates alprostadil,
a vasodilator, with the NexACT
transdermal enhancer. NexMed recently
announced its plans to initiate
a 400-patient Phase 3 study for
Femprox in China. This study is
double-blind, placebo-controlled
and randomized, and designed to
test the efficacy and safety of
Femprox cream in patients diagnosed
with FSAD. |

| NexMed also announced that on
Thursday, May 6, 2004, it expects
to report its first quarter 2004
results at 8:30 AM ET and hold
its management conference call
at 10:30 AM ET. It intends to
file its Form 10-Q for the quarter
ended March 31, 2004 on the same
