NexMed offers large pharmaceutical companies the opportunity to incorporate NexACT® into their existing drugs, allowing these companies to save considerably on R&D costs while developing new patient-friendly transdermal products and extending patent lifespans and brand equity.
Large pharmaceutical companies usually require approximately 1 billion dollars in costs and 11-15 years in product development to bring a new drug to market. NexMed, however, with its suite of transdermal drugs already in development such as a topical treatment for onychomycosis, topical FSAD treatment, the ED product and others, can provide outsourced R&D services to pharmaceutical companies in half of the time and at a fraction of the cost.
Furthermore, by incorporating NexMed’s NexACT penetration enhancers into their existing drugs, pharmaceutical companies can actually improve existing or off-patent drugs, thereby increasing market share. Studies indicate significant advantages to topical as opposed to traditional systemic treatment. Systemic treatment is often fraught with serious side effects as well as a high drop off rate in treatment. However, NexMed’s NexACT drug delivery system offers several competitive advantages, including: fast onset of action, patient friendly route of delivery, little or no side effects and improved clinical efficacy.
The NexACT penetration enhancers, which are designed to be structurally similar to and biologically compatible with the skin structure, are non-toxic, biodegradable, and enable drug candidates to efficiently overcome the skin or mucosal membranes. NexMed’s NexACT technology has wide-ranging applicability in the development of transdermal dosage forms such as creams, gels, ointments, lotions, solutions and intranasal sprays.
